This settee is ideal for the person who believes elegant reclining is a form of personal expression. Crafted in the 1840s, it serves as an excellent example of high American Greek Revival (our version of French Empire). This type of settee graced many an abode in the antebellum South, where American Greek Revival was most vigorously embraced. Napoleon and his dynamite decorating duo of Percier & Fontaine spawned this classically inspired style, and not terribly surprisingly, often incorporated an array of power motifs (note the combination of eagles’ wings and lions paws for legs). With the addition of a classic black & white Greek key pattern, Aphrodite becomes an absolute stunner. Mint julep not included.
