We are looking for a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk to join our team in Syracuse, New York. In this Part Time - Contract-to-Permanent position, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accurate processing of invoices, maintaining vendor records, and supporting financial operations for a non-profit organization. Responsibilities:

• Review and process payment requisitions to ensure accuracy, proper account coding, and adherence to organizational policies.

• Assist with month-end reporting tasks, including downloading general ledger reports, updating spreadsheets, and preparing journal entries.

• Prepare and deposit cash and checks received, ensuring proper documentation and handling.

• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies promptly and effectively.

• Provide excellent customer service by addressing vendor and staff inquiries, and offering guidance on financial policies and procedures.

• Maintain organized financial records, ensuring labeling and cataloging for accessibility and compliance with retention policies.

• Collaborate with the Finance team to implement and refine accounting control procedures.

• Support audit processes by preparing and submitting requested documentation in a timely manner.

• Work collaboratively across departments to meet organizational goals and ensure consistent messaging.

• Stay informed about Council programs to align financial processes with broader organizational objectives.

• Associate’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred, or 5 years of relevant experience.
• Strong understanding of finance, accounting principles, and budgeting, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
• Experience with financial and accounting software applications.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate discretion in handling sensitive information.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance to travel within the organization’s jurisdiction as needed.
